Why People Hate Nickelback
I have been a longtime believer in Nickelback being the Canadian equivalent of Nirvana. Say what you will about the band, but their influence and status throughout the last two decades can not be ignored. Nickelback has accomplished everything that a band could ever dream for, and so much more. They have a song for every kind of listener, and I have never met someone that did not know all of the words of “Rockstar”. This made me wonder, why is there so much hate on social media centered around the legendary band?
I have come to the conclusion that the only reason a person could hate on a band of this stature is simply because, the internet tells them to. We all know somebody who reads an article online with no references and takes everything as scientific fact, we all know somebody who’s social or political opinions only exist because somebody told them they have to think like that. This is absolutely no different. Nickelback is one of the greatest, most accomplished bands of all time, and the only reason anyone could ever dislike them is because they are being told to, and they believe society would not accept them if they admitted to liking Nickelback. Nickelback’s lead singer Chad Kroeger has stated to National Post, that he is content with the hate, because it still draws so much attention to the band. On the same article it is written that Chicago’s mayor at the time, Rahm Emanuel had once clarified publicly that he was not a fan of the band. One can only wonder why this is? Why would a mayor have to publicly clarify that he does not enjoy Nickelback? It’s almost like society expects you to hate Nickelback, or be an outcast.
When all is said and done, there is no denying the success of the band, with Billboard recognizing them as having over 50 million album sales. That’s more than Blink 182 and Motörhead COMBINED! In conclusion, stop listening to what social media tells you to like, and just acknowledge that Nickelback is one of the greatest bands of all time, and is basically, Canadian Nirvana.
